Another Freakshow: Herschel Walker MMA

I love how people assume that they can transition to MMA. Typically, in professional sports, in order to be a hybrid athlete you have to possess not only the raw physical and mental skills, but have to have had years of experience in the other sport, whether it be high school or college level to even reach a marginal amount of success. Not only that, but for the people that are can accomplish it, the transition typically comes off a waning prime, or at the height of their career and physical fitness.
It’s not to say that some sports do not transition well to MMA. Wrestling, Muay Thai, Karate, and Tai Kwan Do backgrounds can all transition well to MMA, but it is the sport of MMA that fighters must perfect over years and years of practice. It is like an NFL player claiming he is a professional catcher, but an amateur runner. In order to do any sport on the big screen, you’ve got to know what the fuck you are doing.
Regardless of how much Walker talks about how much he loves MMA, and how he has trained it for “weeks” (that made me laugh out loud) he really still has no idea what it means to be a professional fighter. Not only that, but if he really wanted to fight, and loved the sport, he would have entered into an amateur tournament that fits his level of training. What a fucking self-righteous retard.
Luckily for Walker he gets to take on 1-1 Greg Nagy, who has a stupid name and who I couldn’t find any information about. It is probably a can of cans and maybe Walker can squeak out a win from Strikesforce’s lopsided matchmaking system. Honestly, with only 1-2 months training in groundwork, I can see Walker getting choked out pretty easy.
The event is going to take place on Jan. 30 on Strikeforce. Make sure not to miss this train wreck.
