James Toney Coming to the UFC

The rumor of James Toney coming to the UFC has been lingering around for some time now. Finally it seems that the crew over at FiveOuncesofPain has been able to get some insider information that in fact James Toney is signing a multi-fight contract with the UFC. All I can say is wow…. I really can’t believe James Toney is going to be in a MMA fight. He is gonna get dominated. Toney used to be an amazing boxer but now his is 41, fat and slow. Of course Toney could always knock someone out but the chances of anyone standing with him long enough for that to happen are slim.
The fact is that Toney’s counter puncher boxing style won’t translate well into MMA. If he does his usual lean back he will instantly get taken down, if leans forward he is gonna eat a knee to the face. It’s obvious that if the fight hits the floor it will be over in a matter of minutes if not seconds. Above all these sets backs his conditioning is going to be terrible….

But who really cares, James Toney getting desecrated in the UFC is better than no James Toney in the UFC at all. As far as opponents go for Toney, Randy Couture has already expressed interest.
That would be a fight I would like to see and I’m sure the Dana White would love to setup. Couture would most definitely win that fight and most likely by a nice finish. We are going to be keeping track of this developing James Toney situation and keep everyone posted on any important news. Oh if we have some non boxing fans out there that aren’t familiar with Toney here is a little highlight reel. Enjoy.
