Overall the event was entertaining. Save some slow moments, most of the fights were interesting, even though all fights went to the scorecards, save Badr Hari vs Zabit Samedov and the DQ of the night Taiei Kin vs Catalin Morosanu. I haven’t seen a K-1 event in some time, and I’m not going to say that this event changed my mind about seeing them more often. I’m going to go over the breakdown of the fights I found mildly entertaining and then Dan will take care of the rest.
Errol Zimmerman vs. Glaube Feitosa

This fight really pissed me off. It’s hard to hate the judges because I realize they score on different criteria than in America, but come on. I guess in K-1 you can throw flurries of punches that land on the gloves and miss completely but look impressive and still manage to pull a decision win.
What annoys me is that Feitosa’s way of weaving and avoiding punches actually makes him look like he’s getting desecrated. But, if you slow-mo the fight, in almost every exchange Feitosa is able to pull off the cleaner, more damaging counter-punches, and Zimmerman misses virtually all of his. Watching shit like this makes me realize why MMA and K-1 are different sports.
RESULT: 3R DECISION – ZIMMERMAN
Ewerton Teixeira vs. Singh Jaideep

This fight sucked balls. At one point the commentators actually said both of them should be DQ’ed for not going for it. It was the only fight of the night that went into two overtime rounds, probably because both did little to impress the judges.
Jaideep sucks balls; he has no power in his hands or legs. The only redeeming factor of his game is his knees, as they should be because he is tall. At first Teixeira impressed me with his clean and hard leg kicks, especially because of the reach and height disadvantage, but as the fight wore on I became incredibly bored. It was the only fight of the night where the Korean crowed booed the fighters. Jaidick should really consider another sport, like basket weaving, or IT.
RESULT: 2ndR OF OT – TEIXEIRA
Jerome Le Banner vs MUSASHI

An exciting and action packed fight. This was the fight I was waiting for. Both let loose and went for the gold. Le Banner landed the cleaner punches, but MUSASHI was able to come back with fierce and powerful counterpunches. Overall it looked as if good training combined with conditioning helped Le Banner get the decision, but both showed tons of heart and tons of emotion in the fight. At the end both bowed and rose each other’s hands in a show of fighter respect. This is what I remember of the old K-1 and ironically enough, was about the same time Le Banner was sweeping the K-1 scene in the late 90’s.
RESULT: 3R DECISION – LEBANNER
Badr Hari vs Zabit Samedov

Can you say utter destruct? Well, that’s what essentially took place in this fight. The two minutes and fifteen seconds of this fight was essentially watching Hari outclass Samedov and completely wreck and ravage him. Leg kick after leg kick, until Badr Hari decided to finish it off with a… you guessed it… PUNCH TO THE STOMACH. WHAT?! I was really surprised it dropped him, it wasn’t off to the side like a liver shot, it was right on the abs through his guard. Perhaps it rocked his sternum? Whatever the case may be Samedov quit, and Hari is moving on in the GP.
RESULT: 1R KO HARI
==================
Taiei Kin vs Catalin Morosanu

This fight was pretty hilarious. It only lasted one round due to a disqualification. How did this disqualification happen you ask? Well it was nearing the end of the first round and at the ten second mark we hear the usual clap. At this sound Morosanu puts his hand up to touch gloves and starts walking back to his corner. Kin just stands there in fucking disbelief and then proceeds to punch Catalin in the face. This brings Catalin back to reality and he continues to fight. Then, and this is the best part, after the actual bell sounds Catalin punches Kin in the face and knocks him the fuck out. It’s a damn shame because it was a good fight and one that Catalin was starting to win before he royally screwed himself.
RESULT: 2R DQ – KIN
Remy Bonjasky vs Melvin Manhoef

This was a close fight. Melvin was pretty relaxed during this fight and got some throws off, Schiavello stated “Melvin is getting more dumps then a toilet box……” I think that Manhoef won this fight but the judges disagree with me. I don’t understand why this fight didn’t at least go an extension round or two. It’s kind of bullshit, you could see that Remy didn’t even feel that he won the fight.
RESULT: 3R DECISION – BONJASKY
Semmy Schilt vs Daniel Ghita

Tall ass Semmy. This dude is too tall to be real. Schilt’s dominated this entire fight, Ghita had trouble with Semmy’s reach as most people do. Ghita had some decent leg kicks and overhand rights but in the end he got knocked down by a jab. Schilt had two knockdowns in the third and completely sealed Ghita’s fate. Props to Ghita tho, his face was pretty fucked up and he didn’t quit. That counts for a lot in my book.
RESULT: 3R DECISION – SCHILT
Ruslan Karaev vs Kyotaro

This was a pretty good fight. Everyone was banking on Kyotaro’s right hand counter but if that’s all the dude has its super blatant. Frankly Karaev was the busier fighter and that’s why he won the fight. He also had a pretty sick spinning backfist.
RESULT: 3R DECISION – KARAEV
Peter Aerts vs Alistair Overeem

Overeem has to ease up on the steroids he is fucking huge. Overeem was just more powerful, it was tough to see Aerts so overwhelmed but Alistair is a beast what can you do.
RESULT: 3R DECISION – OVEREEM
