Strikeforce: Fedor vs Rogers Thoughts, Results and Fight Videos!

We got to see some interesting fights on Saturday, sadly we didn’t get to see a single prelim. The overall production of the event wasn’t bad, it was better then EliteXC on CBS but overall I don’t think that MMA fits in very well with network television. It sucks when they show the entrances for the co-main event but don’t show entrances  for the fucking main event.

Anyway here are the results and the main card fight videos with some thoughts for each.

Results:

Main Card

Fedor Emelianenko def. Brett Rogers via TKO (strikes) — Round 2, 1:48
Jake Shields def. Jason “Mayhem” Miller via Unanimous Decision – Strikeforce Middleweight Championship
Gegard Mousasi def. Rameau Thierry Sokoudjou via TKO (strikes) — Round 2, 3:43
Fabricio Werdum def. Antonio Silva via Unanimous Decision

Preliminary Card

Marloes Coenen def. Roxanne Modafferi via submission (armbar) — Round 1, 1:05
Jeff Curran def. Dustin Neace via submission (injury) — Round 1, 1:39

Fedor Emelianenko vs Brett Rogers

Yet another Fedor win by devastating knockout. Emelianenko got cut early in the first round which is really no surprise, it makes you wonder though of what would happen if someone utilized elbows against him both standing and on the ground. The cage also got in the way of a Fedor armbar when he had Rogers in his guard. Overall though Fedor dominated like he always does and now it’s time for him to claim the Strikeforce title.

Jack Shields vs Jason Miller

http://bl.rutube.ru/2711d7f380ef1d0632c8d1277b5b6df9.flv

This fight went almost exactly how I thought it would. I originally thought that Shields would try to stand for a little while but he never had any intention too. He was able to secure the takedown and keep Miller in bad positions for the entire fight. It was a win for Shields but this fight shows how horribly one dimensional he really is. Shields has absolutely no striking, be it standing or on the ground. If his opponent has good enough defense to not get subbed then it turns out to be a very boring fight. Although Jack Shields is now champion he won’t be able to hang with the best in the middleweight division.

Gegard Mousasi vs Rameau Thierry Sokoudjou

Sokoudjou actually did well for the majority of this fight. I think this actually turned out to be an important fight for Mousasi. He seemed to get a little bit full of himself and overlooked Sokoudjou. It’s good that he was fighting “The African Assassin” because if it was anyone else they would have been able to take advantage of Mousasi and his state of mind much more. In end though Gegard showed why he is a champ and that he is very dangerous.

Fabricio Werdum vs Antonio Silva

http://bl.rutube.ru/640748f1878d0ed5b0acca9e193fe5b4.flv

This was a pretty close fight, Silva actually didn’t look that much bigger then Werdum. Fabricio got hurt a few times but managed to take the decision with superior grappling. He really needs to work on his striking and setting up better take-downs. Werdum’s next fight should probably be Brett Rogers.

i was not impressed by jake shields performance at all. it sort of pissed me off, the guy wasn't trying to finish the fight and aside from jason miller's self esteem, did absolutely no damage. I scored that whole fight like a fukcing grappling match. congrats jake shields on putting forth ur best grapplers quest performance. Also dissapointed by jason miller who thought he could just wait it out on the bottom while shields just squeezed him. Dude wasn't trying for shit. jake shields is going to get that belt taken from him so fast he won't even realize he had it.
