Toney To Fight in the UFC

UFC 108 was pretty fucking awesome. Most of the fights were action packed. Two things really ended up disappointing me, the return of Dwane Ludwig (I was never a huge fan) and Silva loosing against Rashad (I knew it was going to happen that way). While looking for post-fight interviews I stumbled upon this encounter of James Toney talking to Dana White.

While I usually won’t endorse money making freakshows, this one actually interests me and seems like more than a rumor according to the video. The reason I am even slightly intrigued is because never has a legitimately good boxer entered the ring with an MMA fighter with MMA rules. Sure, there are terrible boxers who get dominated, and even Antoni Anoki vs Mohammad Ali (which was complete bullshit) but never someone tested tried and true. Saving the fact that Toney is way after his prime, and washed up, he should still have the ability to knock someone out.

Now don’t jump to conclusions, Toney will get dominated by anyone in the UFC. But it would be interesting to watch, and it would undoubtedly draw a shitload of fans. In a way, Toney is correct when he says that it will be the biggest money making fight in MMA history, a hybrid fight with a legitimate North American Heavyweight will draw fans that would never even look MMA’s way. Even die-hard MMA fans won’t be able to resist when this PPV comes around.

I also found this pretty good highlight clip of Toney. It has fights back when he wasn’t a fat piece of shit.
