UFC 109: Relentless – Predictions and Weigh in Photos

February 6th, 2010 at 4:24 EST - by Garrett

So UFC 109 is on tonight, and most of the fights are actually pretty exciting. While there isn’t a title fight which is disappointing, we get the pleasure to watch a geriatric bought between Randy Couture and the local bum that lives under a bridge.

Randy Couture vs. Mark Coleman

Garrett
Holy shit Coleman looks like an old, alcoholic, Grandpa Simpson. I wish I could say that Coleman has the advantage on the ground, because that’s literally his only strategy. Maybe if headbutting was allowed Coleman could take this one, but I honestly can’t see him defeating Couture standing, or even be able to defeat the more versatile Couture on the ground.

I feel bad for Coleman, he should retire. The level of competition thus far, mixed with the lack of versatility, and a lack of learning, make Coleman a clear underdog for this fight.

Couture has shown the world old men can still fight; Coleman is going to show that sometimes even though they can, they probably shouldn’t.

RESULT: Couture, 3rd Round TKO

Dan
Mark Coleman is terrible and he is going to lose this fight. He is gonna gas out and then get dominated via TKO

RESULT: Couture, 3rd Round TKO

Here is the Couture – Coleman countdown show.

Nate Marquardt vs. Chael Sonnen

Garrett
Finally someone who can definitively beat this little faggot we have all come to hate named Chael Sonnen. I am a big fan of Marquardt and truly believe he is the number one contender in middleweight. Although sometimes he comes upon some rough spots and some hard defeats, he always shows the audience a great show, and is always ready and prepared to take on anyone.

I think, while Sonnen is a faster striker, Marquardt still has the advantage on the feet with harder, and a more versatile game. For a big dude, the guy sure can land a head kick. If it goes to the ground, which it very well may, Marquardt can control the action with superior physicality and technique. I also think he has a bigger submission game than Sonnen.

RESULT: Marquardt, 2nd round submission

Dan
Marquardt is the true number one contender now and he deserves another shot at Silva. I hate Sonnen, he thinks he is the best fucking fighter in the world and in reality he is just a pussy.

RESULT: Marquardt, 2rd Round TKO

Mike Swick vs. Paulo Thiago

Garrett
Paulo Thiago is weird. His striking game looks absolutely retarded, but he’s able to knock people out with ease. Swick on the other hand, has shown in the past to have a questionable chin. I am going to go ahead and say that while Thiago has impressed me with his wins as of late, especially over Koscheck, one of my favorites, Swick, along with his camp at AKA have probably broken down Thiago’s game and are coming in pretty knowledgeable and prepared.

The original fight was to be a rematch between Koscheck and Thiago, but because of injury Koscheck pulled out, and instead sent Swick, the lesser of the two. Let’s hope Swick brings his A-game and is able to avenge the devastating KO defeat of Koscheck at the hands of Paulo Thiago.

RESULT: Swick, Unanimous Decision

Dan
Marquardt is the true number one contender now and he deserves another shot at Silva. I hate Sonnen, he thinks he is the best fucking fighter in the world and in reality he is just a pussy.

RESULT: Thiago, U.Decision

Demian Maia vs. Dan Miller

Garrett
Maia has always been one of my favorites since he came into the UFC. The only problem we have consistently seen in his game is a complete lack of standup, which primarily caused his loss against Marquart. The truth is, Maia is a BJJ artist, and one of the best in the entire world. He should keep it that way in this fight and take Miller down and submit him like usual.

Miller has a blackbelt too, one he acquired at 10th Planet in 2010, in a mere 5 years, which means, he is an absolute novice next to the 2nd degree black belt Maia, who has been training Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and Judo his entire life. Let’s hope Maia doesn’t get knocked out again, and once again shows the world why he is one of the best at BJJ.

RESULT: Maia, 1st Round Submission

Dan
Another instant Demian Maia submission I hope, unless Marquardt destroyed his brain in that last fight.

RESULT: Maia, 1st Submission

Matt Serra vs. Frank Trigg

Garrett
This fight is actually really cool. Neither fighters are relevant in their weight class but both have been around forever. Serra has actually been a champion while Trigg has spent his entire career learning how to get choked out. Both will probably try to stand for a little bit, and then once it goes to the ground I see Serra’s superior submission and BJJ skills taking over and submitting Trigg.

Unless you can teach the old dog Trigg some new tricks, he’s fucked in this fight.

RESULT: Serra, 2nd round REAR NAKED CHOKE

Dan
Matt Serra is pretty bad but Frank Trigg is a lot worse he should never have come back.

RESULT: Serra, U.Decision
